American Express Cards
A Common Misconception About American Express Cards
In the past, American Express cards were only for people who could pay off their entire balance each month. Their commercials portrayed that American Express cards were only for business people or the very rich. Rarely did you see "the average Joe" with an American Express card. That's why cards issued by other banks (like MasterCards and Visas) were much more popular.
But in recent years, American Express has realized that they are missing out on a large portion of the market by excluding those who cannot pay off their balances in full each month. So now they offer American Express cards that enable you to pay over time. In addition, they've joined the credit card game by offering competitive rates (0% for 15 months), cards with no annual fee, student cards and rewards programs. They even have rewards programs with no annual fee! That's pretty good because most rewards programs have some kind of annual fee.
American Express offers travel rewards, entertainment rewards and shopping (!) rewards. The newest kind of rewards being offered by credit card companies and cards that offer rewards for gas and groceries, but American Express cards haven't jumped on that bandwagon--yet. Give 'em time! Just like finally allowing the option of paying over time, eventually they'll probably offer rewards for gas and groceries too.
